The YEPI program in Chile is now in its 3rd year! Looking back we get excited while realizing how things have changed among our faculty and students, in our department and even at the university level.

Something that makes us very happy is to realize that our work within the university and the region of Los Ríos is now known by a number of lecturers from other campuses, specifically the ones of the city of Puerto Montt and Campus Patagonia (800km far!). They requested the possibility to participate in the training course for lecturers programed for this semester, but at the same time declared their interest in us visiting their workplaces to exercise with them and their colleagues the methodologies we are teaching in Valdivia.

This is meaningful for us, for our department, but also for the units in charge of strengthening the bonds between UACh’s different campuses. Because of distance, but also because of certain particularities of university life, it is not usual for faculty from different cities to collaborate. It happens rarely, and usually limited to topics related to basic sciences.

The work CEM is doing to support students and their lecturers is breaking this trend, attracting the interest of lecturers who are looking for partners to share their wish to innovate in the classroom, but also nurturing new strategies to make different departments and campuses work together as a community. Our first visit to Campus Patagonia will take place in mid-May, and will be fully funded by the Department of Research and Development at our university!

The YEPI program made possible the existence and continuation of our training course for students, which is now allowing the center to reach the whole university community, all over Chile!
