Social Innovation Lab opened applications for its 8th consecutive incubation cycle, The Hatchery, on February 17, 2017. To engage potential social entrepreneurs and address queries an open house was held at the LUMS. The event was attended by a number of enthusiastic entrepreneurs and subsequently we received a high number of applications for The Hatchery.
After a rigorous selection process we selected 8 new teams to start their journey towards becoming a social enterprise. These include The Handmade, Recogo, ProbShare, Paperpk, Monitoring & Evaluation Lab, Taleemdost, LOOP and Art Diaries. We were encouraged to see that all of these startups make use of technology to solve some of the most crucial problems in education, economic opportunity and accessibility for the disabled as well as community development for the bottom-of-the-pyramid population.
Moreover, in this quarter, we are trying to expand our network base by engaging with social entrepreneurs and professionals from across the world to help us identify the future courses of action that Social Innovation Lab can take. One of the most significant things we teach our incubatees is to pivot and continually evolve to make their organization most relevant to solve the problem that they initially set out to solve. We are now applying the principle to our own organization, seeking ways to support the overall social entrepreneurial ecosystem in Pakistan. We want to become the thought leaders for this landscape and for that we are currently accumulating and generating knowledge from our 4 years of operation. The sharing and learning environment that we are trying to create through collaborations and content generation will be a constructive step to boost social entrepreneurship
