Social Innovation Lab conducted its 6th Hatchery Cycle successfully from the end of March to the start of June this year in Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS). The curriculum was revised this year keeping in mind the feedback received from the last Hatchery cycle. At the end of this cycle, the curriculum was updated again to include feedback from this cycle. Through this continuous improvement we are trying to ensure that the curriculum stays easily comprehensible and in line with what is taught globally in the field of social entrepreneurship.
Our incubator is now in the high gear in its growth phase. SIL now has 50% stake in a new co-working space, called Daftarkhwan. This is a solid step towards sustainability of our organization. Moreover, we have actively started working on franchising our incubator program. For this purpose, the Rajeev Circle proved to be great opportunity as we were able to establish new connections such as Ahmed Hassan from Inventus Law, Rohit Shukla, the founder and CEO of Larta Institute and Asha Jadeja, a venture capitalist in Silicon Valley. These people were kind enough to lend us their help and counsel for our franchising project, at a time when we especially need some guidance.
Apart from these events, SIL marketed and advanced its goal of creating a social impact through the relentless efforts of Founder Maryam Mohiuddin and Co-Director Saad Idrees. They pitched to startup gurus such as Osman Rashid in Silicon Valley and participated in events such as TiEcon 2016 so that SIL can learn and become better at what it does. Moreover, a constant connection with the global social entrepreneurs was maintained through various conferences that Maryam Mohiuddin attended such as those held at Boston University and Tufts University as well as MIT media lab. Moreover, through a Skype session with Elli Yiannakaris, Director of the Raymond Ackerman Academy (RAA), the team at home learnt more about her great work and heard from the social entrepreneurs in RAA, South Africa.
The team at SIL welcomes a new Monitoring & Evaluation manager, who is a fresh bachelor’s graduate in Management Sciences from LUMS and has proved to be a great asset for the team.
